Composer : Juan Arroyo

Instrument : Tenor Saxophone Solo

Duration: 7 minutes 30 seconds

Description : Immerse yourself in the vastness of the cosmos with “Chant astral,” a musical composition that transports you to a captivating universe. This piece for tenor saxophone solo utilizes multiphonic sounds and complex, abrasive sonic textures to create a dialogue between primitive and cosmic elements. The journey begins with ethereal sounds, evoking a deep and ancient connection with nature and the origins of humanity. These sounds prepare the listener for the intensity to come, quickly joined by a clamor of multiphonic sounds from the tenor saxophone, creating an atmosphere that is both chaotic and hypnotic. The tenor saxophone delivers complex and mesmerizing melodies, inspired by the Andean Yaravi, punctuated by airy sounds that add a primitive and powerful depth to the composition. “Chant astral” explores the technique of “melody-timbre” as well as variations of blown sounds, leading the listener to reflect on fundamental questions such as the origin of life, our place in the universe, and the search for meaning. The contrasts between primitive sounds and cosmic sonorities highlight the beauty and mystery of the universe, inviting the listener on a unique and enchanting sonic journey. Completed on February 1, 2025, this piece is dedicated to the French saxophonist Carl-Emmanuel Fisbach.
