A Sonic Journey into a Hidden and Dreamlike World
Work: Saynatasqa
Composer: Juan Arroyo
Duration: 10 minutes
Instruments: hybrid cello
In Saynatasqa, Juan Arroyo takes us on a sonic journey where each note opens the door to a hidden world. Created for the TanaCello, a unique hybrid instrument invented by Arroyo himself, this piece draws its name from the Quechua word meaning « hidden » or « masked. » Dedicated to the virtuoso Jeanne Maisonhaute, this innovative composition is born from a bold hybridization between an Amazonian vocal harp and a classical cello. The various sections of the piece intertwine and succeed one another, much like the vibrant festivities of a Latin American carnival, offering rich and ever-evolving soundscapes. With each vibration and resonance, the listener is transported on a sensory voyage where the boundaries of the old and new blur, revealing an oneiric and unexpected universe. The premiere of Saynatasqa took place during a concert held for the inauguration of the new Conservatoire Paul Dukas in Paris, surrounded by an orchestra of cellos, where Jeanne Maisonhaute made this enchanting work resonate, marking the beginning of its captivating musical odyssey.
