It all began with a walk along the Saint-Denis Canal. Discovering the immense murals lining its banks, I was struck by their presence, their energy, and the way they give the city a soul. Standing before those painted walls, the idea for Urban Pictures came to me: What if music could capture that same energy, that same vitality? Urban Pictures is a deep dive into the urban universe, a meeting point between street art and music, where every note, every movement, and every beam of light seeks to convey the raw emotion of these murals. On stage, four dancers embody the city in all its vitality, while five musicians, positioned above, sketch its sonic landscape. An electronic sound system and sculptural lighting envelop the audience, creating an immersive experience where the city reveals itself in a new light. The 51-minute piece, performed without interruption, draws direct inspiration from iconic works of Parisian street art. Métaux Parlants evokes the noise of construction sites, Aérosol the revelation of walls through color, Pulse the city’s relentless rhythm. Then come more intimate moments: La Ville en Deuil, where a lone dancer seems to carry the weight of memories, Silent Shadows, where a piano converses with the shadows of passersby, Love Fragments, where love endures despite the urban clamor. Finally, 20 Mille Lieues Sous La Scène, La Dérive, and Street Art Avenue take us on a sonic and choreographic journey, culminating in the final dissipation of energy. With Urban Pictures, I invite you to walk with us through the invisible streets of this imaginary metropolis.
